Engineering Ethics: Challenges for Innovation, Technology, and Society
In this course, engineers will review the Codes of Ethics of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers, particularly the duties of the engineer to employers; the engineering community; and the public. Engineers will debate how criteria such as scientific advancement, economic empowerment, international development, environmental protection, and public health should guide ethical decision-making and priorities for technological investment. Engineers will consider the potential unintended consequences, both short-term and long-term, of new innovations. Engineers will discuss whether a technological solution is always the best solution to an unmet need.
